  • The actor calls for the return of the 2023 cashless policy to help stabilize the Naira.
  • Social media users react with mixed feelings, questioning his motives.

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has stirred fresh conversations online after publicly appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reintroduce the cashless policy that was enforced in 2023.

In a recent post, Edochie argued that the controversial policy helped strengthen the Naira and lower the prices of goods and services by making smaller denominations like ₦5, ₦10, ₦20, and ₦50 valuable again. He also claimed it helped reduce the rate of kidnapping across the country.

Addressing Tinubu directly, Edochie wrote:

“To my leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR @officialasiwajubat. I humbly suggest you bring back the cashless policy. When it was introduced by the previous administration, it increased the value of the naira tremendously. It helped to bring down prices of goods and made ₦5, ₦10, ₦20 and ₦50 notes regain value.

The cashless policy also helped to reduce kidnapping massively. Consider it again, Sir. Thank you, Your Excellency.”

His suggestion has sparked heated reactions online. While a few agreed with his viewpoint, many others accused the actor of trying to stay relevant or curry favor with those in power. Some argued that the past policy was burdensome for small businesses and rural communities that rely heavily on cash transactions.

Here are a few reactions from social media:

  • @chioma_rita4: “You wanna be relevant 😹 Face baby Storm and Ijele in peace.”
  • @escobar_of_asia: “Stop this thing nah my brother.”
  • @vincentfrench95: “Your so-called president does not know what he’s doing. The only thing he knows is how to award contracts to his friends. Nigeria must be rescued.”
  • @ayamaster32: “No, we’re good with the cash-at-hand policy… It’s working for many of us. Do I have a witness? Thank you.”
  • @ogooaneneofficial: “Our able president please give this man one position, even if it’s minister for women affairs abeg, make him rest haba.”
  • @donsilas01: “And @yuledochie was once my role model. Someone I respected so much. See as him dey yeye himself up and down.”

As always, Edochie’s post has kept him in the headlines — and the comment section buzzing.
