Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has publicly apologized to fellow actor and filmmaker Afeez Abiodun, popularly known as Afeez Owo, for slapping him during a film shoot over two decades ago.
Speaking recently on Behind the Fame African A-List, Solade revisited the incident, which took place on a remote movie set near Ibadan, where Afeez served as the production manager at the time.
Solade recounted that the altercation happened after filming had wrapped for the day and the area was hit by a power outage. Frustrated by the blackout and what he perceived as Afeez’s lack of urgency in resolving the issue, Solade admitted he lost his temper.
“Let me apologise to Afeez Abiodun. I slapped him once. He was the production manager of a film—I can’t remember the exact year. We were on the outskirts of Ibadan, and after filming, there was a blackout,” he said.
“As the production manager, he was the one we blamed for everything. I got so angry because he wasn’t taking me seriously, and that slap just happened, in the dark. I’ve never liked that memory.”
Solade shared that Afeez left the location early the next morning without a word, and the incident has weighed on him ever since.
“Afeez, I’m truly sorry. Mabinu simi [please don’t be offended]. It’s been about 20 years. I’ve complained to people about it before, but I want to say this directly to Afeez. I don’t tolerate insults, and maybe that’s my weakness
