Several former housemates of the popular reality show Big Brother Naija have shared how the platform changed the course of their lives and careers for the better.
The ex-contestants spoke about their journeys during an interview at the birthday celebration of BBNaija host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, which was held in Lagos.
Ebuka, who rose to fame as a housemate before becoming the show’s celebrated host, reflected on how BBNaija completely redirected his career path.
“Big Brother Naija made me a television presenter. That path wasn’t part of my original plan — I was a lawyer and thought I’d still be practicing law. But my time in the Big Brother house helped me discover my passion for speaking. Without the show, I wouldn’t have this career in TV today,” he shared.
Actress and singer Bisola Aiyeola also credited the show for fast-tracking her rise in the entertainment industry.
“Even though I was confident I’d succeed eventually, Big Brother Naija catapulted me to the top much faster than I expected,” she said.
Actor and filmmaker Elozonam echoed this, adding, “It gave my brand the visibility and recognition it needed.”
Mercy Eke, who made history as the first female winner of BBNaija in 2019, described the show as a life-changing experience.
“Big Brother Naija didn’t just boost my brand — it changed my life entirely. Everything about me evolved through that platform,” she said.
Actor Gideon Okeke shared how the show helped him escape hardship.
“If not for Big Brother Naija, I’d still be in the ghetto. Now, people know my name,” he said gratefully.
Television personality KimOprah praised the show for giving young people a global stage to shine.
“It’s a powerful platform. Once you’re on it, your journey can only go upward,” she noted.
Podcaster Adekunle echoed the same gratitude.
“Big Brother made me visible to millions. It gave me a voice and recognition I wouldn’t have had otherwise,” he said.
Singer and BBNaija winner Laycon summed it up perfectly:
“It launched my career into the stratosphere.”
For many of these stars, BBNaija was more than just a show — it was the springboard that propelled them into the spotlight.
