Nigerian activist and social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkman (VDM), has strongly criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the recent sentencing of Olukeye Adedayo, who received a 76-year prison term for stealing ₦71,000.

In a viral video, VDM condemned the punishment as outrageously disproportionate, especially when compared to the lack of consequences for politicians and public officials accused of embezzling billions of naira. He questioned why minor offenders face the full weight of the law, while high-profile individuals remain untouched.

Mocking the EFCC, he referred to the agency as “Kidder FC” and accused it of failing in its mandate. According to VDM, the commission has not prosecuted a single major political figure for corruption in the past eight years. He also joked that his outspokenness might get him arrested again.

VDM highlighted several unresolved cases, including alleged fraud involving marketers in Anambra State, and corruption within NAFDAC. He also referenced long-standing allegations against former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, suggesting they have been conveniently ignored.

Criticizing Nigeria’s judicial system, he pointed to the dire conditions at Kuje prison, where over 700 inmates reportedly remain in custody without trial. He alleged that many Nigerians must pay bribes to delay or manipulate court proceedings, a reflection, he said, of a broken justice system.

“If the justice system worked, activists like me wouldn’t have to exist,” he declared.

VDM’s comments come on the heels of his recent clash with the EFCC. He was previously reported missing by a friend, Dkokopee, only to later reveal he had been detained by the anti-corruption agency. Following intense public backlash, he was released — though fans noted visible signs of distress, prompting allegations of mistreatment while in custody.

Celebrities and supporters have since voiced their concern, condemning his arrest and what they described as unlawful detention.
