Reality TV personality and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Doyin David, has criticized the way some men immediately sexualize women upon meeting them, without making an effort to understand them as individuals.
Speaking during a recent episode of Thanks For Coming, a dating-themed talk show hosted by Grand Prince Ita, Doyin shared her frustration with this common behavior.
“Most times when a guy meets a girl, it’s very easy for them to sexualize her,” she said. “They start thinking, ‘What’s sex going to be like with this person?’ without even trying to get to know her. Sex is important to me, but I’m a whole human being outside of my vagina.”
Doyin also opened up about the current challenges of dating in Nigeria, revealing that she hasn’t been in a relationship in several months due to the emotional toll of modern dating.
“It’s been a while, honestly. A few months ago was the last time. Dating in Nigeria these days feels like extreme sports—it’s exhausting,” she shared.
Despite the hurdles, Doyin said she remains open to love, but only with someone who genuinely earns her trust. “I’m willing to be emotionally vulnerable, but only with the right person. I’ll be submissive for the right man,” she added.
When it comes to what she values in a partner, Doyin highlighted emotional attentiveness and responsiveness as key qualities.
“Do I feel like you actually listen to me? When I express a concern, do you take it seriously and make an effort to change? That’s what really matters to me,” she concluded.
