Nigerian singer and songwriter Waje Iruobe has called on Nigerians to actively support those who speak up for the welfare and rights of ordinary people.
In a message shared on her Instagram Story on Thursday, the soulful singer expressed concern over the lack of widespread backing for people who courageously challenge social and economic injustices. She pointed out that many well-meaning individuals continue to fight for equity, justice, and better living conditions — yet they often face indifference or pushback from the same people they are trying to protect.
Waje stressed that Nigeria needs unity now more than ever, especially as citizens grapple with worsening hardship and social challenges. She urged Nigerians not to leave advocates and activists to fight alone but to stand with them instead of silencing or criticizing them.
Her message comes at a time when conversations about governance, poverty, insecurity, and economic struggles dominate public discourse. Waje’s statement serves as a reminder that real change can only happen when people come together in solidarity and support those brave enough to defend the voiceless.
“Stop stifling the voice of well-meaning Nigerians that are concerned about the well-being of the common man. If you do what you are supposed to do, nobody will call you out. Selah,” she wrote.
