Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has revealed why she chose to cut ties with many of her colleagues in the movie industry, admitting that her fear of divorce drove the drastic decision.

In a candid chat on Oyinmomo TV, the actress opened up about meeting her husband, Olayiwola Abdulwakilu, at the peak of her acting career. Not long after, she relocated to London and stepped away from Nollywood for over a decade to focus on building a family.

Opeyemi explained that despite her love for acting, her top priority was protecting her marriage, especially given the widespread perception that many actors and actresses struggle to maintain stable family lives. She shared that this fear pushed her to block industry contacts and focus solely on her home.

“When his name came up, he approached me. I don’t know what charm he used — he carried me abroad, and I was a lover girl too. Next thing I knew, I was in London. Maybe he added honey to his words — Epe men have tricks, and you’ll fall for them,” she said lightheartedly.

She continued: “I was off the scene for over ten years and I sincerely apologize to my fans. I held my marriage in high esteem, so I blocked everybody’s number in the industry. People often say we [actors] don’t have stable homes or stable lives, but they don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. I didn’t want my story to end in divorce, so I cut everyone off.”

Looking back, Opeyemi said she doesn’t fully understand how she isolated herself so completely but is now reconnecting with her old contacts as she returns to acting.

“When I finally came back to myself, I asked, ‘What happened? Who did I offend?’ So I unblocked everyone. Now, I’m focusing on my career again. I have two boys — they know I love them and I’ve given them everything: my time, my love, my sacrifices. Now it’s time to focus on myself and my career again.”
