Acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Kemi Adetiba has poured her heart out in gratitude to fans and viewers for the massive support and glowing feedback pouring in for her latest movie, To Kill A Monkey (TKAM).
In a heartfelt statement, Adetiba admitted she’s still searching for the right words to fully capture her appreciation. She described TKAM as one of her boldest, rawest, and most emotionally intense projects yet — and a risk she’s proud she took.
The film tackles the unfiltered reality of human emotions, diving deep into the psychological and moral struggles that unfold when a principled person is pushed beyond their limits.
Adetiba explained that the characters in TKAM are forced to navigate harsh, morally grey decisions — and their choices, however flawed, remain authentic to who they are.
Crediting the film’s growing success to the audience’s unwavering support, she described the response as nothing short of a “monster hit.”
“Thank you. I’ve been searching for the words to describe how I feel… to describe the deep gratitude in my soul. And honestly, I’m still coming up short. All I can say is — thank you. Thank you from the bottom-box of my heart!”
Adetiba went on to share how TKAM is unlike anything she’s ever created:
“It was a crazy risk to take, but it was a story I strongly felt I needed to tell — no gloss, no theatrics, no grandiose characters to hide behind. Just a raw, human story about real people, with real struggles, trying to navigate impossible choices.”
She reflected on the uncomfortable but honest reality the film exposes:
“Everyone thinks they know what they’d do when faced with a moral crossroad. But the truth? That answer often comes from a place of comfort and privilege. It’s easy to speak of principles when you’re not staring down hunger or desperation.”
At its core, TKAM poses a haunting question: Does the end justify the means? — but Adetiba leaves the answer for the audience to wrestle with.
She thanked fans for making the film an undeniable success:
