Nollywood actor Stanley Nweze has sparked fresh debate online after posting a satirical video that takes aim at the state of freedom of speech in Nigeria.
The video, shared on his Instagram page on June 26, sees Nweze using sarcasm to highlight how fear of government backlash is silencing ordinary Nigerians.
In the clip, the actor humorously implies that citizens are now too afraid to express dissenting opinions because they risk being targeted or detained.
“There is no longer freedom of speech in this country. Everyone is scared of speaking. There are certain things we want to say but we can’t because you will get picked up from your home. We no longer speak our mind,” he said.
Continuing his satire, Nweze ‘insisted’ he wouldn’t dare criticize the authorities:
“If not that there is no longer freedom of speech, I would have said that this government is not working. I can’t say this government is a rubbish government. Why will I say that? If I say such now, they will come and pick me and so I will not say something like that.”
His bold yet comedic jab has since gone viral, with many fans praising him for addressing a serious issue in a humorous but thought-provoking way.
