“I Regret Supporting Tinubu” – Actress Bukky Raji Publicly Apologizes to Nigerians

Nollywood actress Bukky Raji, widely known as Aminatu Papapa, has publicly expressed deep regret for supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 general elections. In an emotional interview on Oyinmomo TV via YouTube, Raji apologized to Nigerians, admitting her support was driven by misplaced trust and business expectations.

The actress, known for her energetic roles in Yoruba cinema, stated that her endorsement of Tinubu was not born out of political loyalty, but from a hopeful belief that his leadership would benefit local businesses—particularly in border communities affected by trade restrictions.

“What I regret in my life is that they said they wanted to renew hope,” she said, visibly emotional.
“I use this moment to beg Nigerians—those who love me, and even those who don’t.”

“I Wasn’t Told… I Later Saw It”

Raji said her biggest mistake was not properly reassessing Tinubu’s capabilities before endorsing him publicly.

“There’s a saying: when you haven’t seen someone in a long time, you need to observe them again before vouching for them. That was where I went wrong,” she reflected.

She insisted her regret wasn’t a reaction to online backlash but rather a product of sincere personal reflection.

“It’s not because people bashed me online. I sat down, I thought about it deeply. I said, ‘Oh God, I’ve made a mistake.’”

Economic Hardship and Personal Losses

Bukky Raji also revealed the toll the administration’s policies have taken on her personally, especially in her rice trade business.

“I started with just 20 bags of rice and grew to offloading trailers. But now? Everything has crumbled. I thought if Tinubu was elected, he’d reopen the borders and things would improve for us. But now, all of us—supporters and critics—are suffering.”

She passionately pleaded for understanding:

“Don’t be angry. I know I’ve offended many people, and that’s my biggest regret in life—not because of insults, but because I truly misjudged.”

No Campaign Payment, Only Disappointment

Addressing rumors that she was paid for her support, Raji firmly denied receiving any money, stating that internal conflicts among campaign insiders led to the disbursement falling through.

“I didn’t receive a dime. Not because money wasn’t available, but because of disunity. Some people insisted they were elders and should get more. That was the beginning of the problem.”

“I told them it was the curse of Awolowo that affected us all. At the end of the day, we got nothing.”

Bukky Raji’s candid confession has stirred strong reactions online, with many praising her honesty while others remain critical. Regardless, her apology adds yet another layer to the ongoing public discourse surrounding the aftermath of the 2023 elections and the current economic situation in Nigeria.
