Veteran Nollywood actor Femi Branch is at the center of a growing controversy following an alleged physical altercation with a crew member on a movie set. A video circulating online appears to show the moment he was prevented from leaving the location after reportedly slapping the Assistant Director (AD) during a heated exchange.
The incident reportedly occurred on Day 8 of a 9-day shoot, between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM, while the crew prepared to wrap at one location before transitioning to their final scene at Lekki Conservation Centre.
What Led to the Incident
According to multiple accounts from those on set, tension flared during a camera setup involving two units. While the Director of Photography (DP) and Assistant Director were still configuring the second camera, the main Director began filming with the first unit, catching the crew off guard.
“I was hitting the door so they could open it because the DP needed to confirm the frame,” the victim recounted.
“Femi Branch shouted that we were filming, and I responded by asking what they were filming since key crew were still inside.”
What followed was a verbal confrontation that allegedly escalated into physical violence. Branch reportedly insulted the AD and then physically struck him after being challenged on set protocol.
“He flared up, asking who I was to talk back. When I reminded him of my role, he became furious and hit me,” the AD claimed.
Crew Takes a Stand
The altercation shocked the production crew, leading to a rare display of solidarity. After relocating to the Lekki Conservation Centre, the crew refused to resume filming unless Branch offered a public apology.
“He was asked to apologize but refused,” the AD said. “When he attempted to leave, the crew locked the gate, stopping him from driving away.”
A video from the scene, shared by industry insiders and verified social media accounts, shows crew members blocking the actor’s vehicle from exiting, with many voicing support for their colleague.
Public Reaction & Industry Response
Clips of the incident have since gone viral, prompting widespread backlash. The Nigerian Film Crew Community (NFCC) also issued a call-out, demanding accountability.
“We will not stay silent,” read an NFCC repost. “Silence protects abusers.”
As of the time of reporting, neither Femi Branch nor the production’s executive team has released an official statement.
